Law Admissions 2019-20

Admission process for BA-LLB course

PUBLISH DATE 30th July 2018

Students who submitted Standard X and XII best-offive marks during the online application process for the fiveyear integrated BA-LLB course are in a fix after colleges have rejected their applications.

Representatives of colleges have said that the students had to submit their aggregate Std X and Std XII marks. In the case of Maharashtra state board candidates, this would be out of 600 marks, while, for CBSE and ICSE candidates, it would be out of 500.

A student, who has been allotted ILS Law College, said, “There was no mention of what marks have to be included in the online application. After Std X, when we applied for Std XI registration through the Centralised Admission Process, the best-of-five marks were considered. Hence, while applying for Law admissions, via CET, we submitted the bestof-five marks. After the online submission, we had to verify our documents but nobody raised an objection at the time and the CET cell allotted colleges for qualified students under the first round today.”

The problem came to fore after some colleges raised an objection. “When I went to confirm my admission, the officials objected to my candidature stating that the marks in the marksheet were different from those I had submitted,” said the student.

Another student facing the same problem said, “When we confronted the college administration, we were told to wait till the third round of admission begins. The problem is that students, who have scored lesser than us, will easily get admission in better colleges. By the third round, we will have to opt for not-so-good colleges despite getting better scores. It is the fault of the higher education directorate and CET administration that we are in this mess.”

Principal of ILS Law College Vaijayanti Joshi said, “We had some students who had filled best-of-five and others who had filled aggregate marks. Now, we have urged the state CET cell to give a clarification.”

Dhanraj Mane, director of higher education, said that a circular will be issued on Monday regarding the matter. “Whether a student has filled best-of-five marks or they have filled the aggregate marks, we will inform colleges to accept both applications. We do not want any student to suffer,” said Mane.
