PGDM – AGRI-BUSINESS & MANAGEMENT

VAMNICOM’s Centre for Management Education offers a two-year Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM (ABM)) programme from the year 1993. The centre seeks to mould its young students who come from different academic backgrounds and with diverse skills in to competent professionals of tomorrow. The students learn to combine the use of technical skills with the understanding of the socio-cultural system to emerge as leaders in their fields and make significant contribution through management in all sectors of the society. Considering the ever growing requirement for professional Managers in the field of Agri Business, the PGDM (ABM) programme has been structured with specialization in Agri Business Management (ABM). Students evolve through a structured process that enables them to:

  • Develop required conceptual base in the different subject areas of relevance

  • Acquire the relevant skills in using modern management tools and techniques

  • Develop application skills of appropriate management techniques in the context of agri business

The PGDM (ABM) has been recognised by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Government of India and recognised by Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to M.B.A. degree.   The programme has been accredited by National Board of Accreditation, New Delhi for 2 years from June 2015 to June 2017.​

The programme comprises two segments, viz., classroom and Summer Internship. Of these, the first involves an exposure to concepts, skills and knowledge in the classroom, while the later involves first-hand experience of understanding organizations. Evaluation of students’ performance in the Programme is a continuous process, offering opportunity for frequent and regular corrections. All the segments of Programme – classroom study, fieldwork, summer Internship– are evaluated and the results are reported on students’ grade card. Students are expected to meet the standards of performance prescribed by the PGDM (ABM) Committee for each segment.

CLASSROOM SEGMENT

The PGDM (ABM) programme is designed with classroom teaching component integrating case method pedagogy. 41 credits are required to be completed in six terms. 26 credits of subjects offered on Core Management areas and 12 credits of specialization subjects are offered in the area of Agri-Business Management. Three credit courses are devoted to project courses to equip the students to take up challenging assignments in the Agri Business sector.

SUMMER INTERNSHIP SEGMENT

Every student has to undergo eight weeks of Summer Internship which is compulsory during April and May after completion of the first year course. The report prepared by the student will be evaluated by the organization where the student was placed for internship and the same is required to be presented in the class room. The cost involved in summer internship will have to be borne by the students themselves. However, most of the organisations provide financial assistance to students for undertaking summer internship.

Evaluation

The performance of the students in each course in each term shall be evaluated through quizzes, assignments, exercises, class participation, presentation, projects, short test, etc. in addition to a mid-term examination and end-term examination. The respective instructor will inform the combination of the evaluation components and the weightages thereof. The objective of the evaluation is to ensure that the students attain the necessary minimum standards.

Scholarships and Overseas Summer Internship

NCUI Scholarship of Rs. 40,000/- per annum is given to six students as per the norms of National Cooperative Union of India.
IFFCO Scholarship of Rs. 15,000/- per annum is given to Two SC and One ST student on merit basis.
CICTAB Meritorious Award  for two students of India & two Foreign Nationals.
Govt. of India, Ministry of Social Welfare/ Tribal Affairs,   Post Matric Scholarships for SC/ST students 

As part of a MoU between VAMNICOM and National Institute of Cooperative Development (NICD), Sri Lanka, two meritorious students of the PGDBM will get Summer Internship at Sri Lanka. Under this agreement, VAMNICOM provides air travel expenditure. Lodging & boarding facilities are provided by NICD, Sri Lanka.

In addition to the referred scholarships, the Social Welfare Department of various State Governments supports the students belonging to SC/ST/OBC category.

All aggrieved students, their parents & others may approach to the Grievance Redressal Committee of the institute in the first instance and if they are not satisfied with the decision of the committee, they may send their appeals to the “OMBUDSMAN” directly.
