Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law (RGSOIPL) was established in the year 2006 by IIT-Kharagpur in collaboration with the George Washington University Law School, Washington DC. RGSOIPL offers the LLB (Hons) degree with specialisation in Intellectual Property Rights. Students wanting admission would require a minimum degree of BE/B.Tech /MBBS (or equivalent) or MSc /M.Pharm (or equivalent). Selection of the candidates is done through an all India entrance test and Group discussion/Personal Interview. The course is designed only for students with science background.
Contents of the program
The course is a 3-year full-time residential programme divided into 6 semesters. Curricula of the programme is based on the requirement of the Bar council of India. You may refer to the curriculum here. The course imparts strong legal education covering topics such as Labor and Industrial Law, Company Law, Constitutional Law etc. The course involves other activities, what generally is present in a basic LLB, such as Moot Courts, Seminars and Summer Training.
This course is the only full-time professional course available in India. All aspects of IPR, such as Copyright, Patents etc are dealt with in great detail, providing a thorough understanding of the subject. Practical court sessions, seminars and summer trainings included in the course, train the students with science backgrounds to deal with legal matters.
